ESL Musics URSULA 1000 is the alter ego of Brooklyn, New York based producer/DJ/multi-instrumentalist
Alex Gimeno. His albums and mix sessions have taken on a broad scope of
retro tinged spy grooves, bumping latin disco funk, hints of post punk,
electro, go go, sleazy glam rock...and he never stops evolving.
You can hear it in his remixes for the likes of Quincy Jones, Felix Da
Housecat, The Faint, Fort Knox Five to a slew of television remodels for
themes to Sesame Street, The Powerpuff Girls, The Incredibles and Yo
Gabba Gabba. Scenes and promos for Sex And The City, Greys Anatomy and
How I Met Your Mother and Modern Family popped even more with a helping
of a little Ursula as have campaigns for AT&T, Samsung, Adidas and
Grand Marnier.
His collaborations with Dr.Luke, Shag, Cristina,
Los Amigos Invisibles, Misty Roses, Federico Aubele to name a few
brought forth sheer magic on the four albums, The Now Sound of Ursula
1000, Kinda Kinky, Here Comes Tomorrow and Mystics. All Systems Are Go
Go and Ursadelica showed the world his dj skills and ear for the best in
hip shaking groovers. Undressed had it all re-imagined by electronics
finest like Deekline, Ladytron, Product.01, Malente and more.
You can find him traveling the world dj-ing at places like Fabric, The
Big Chill Festival, Shambhala or even at his hometown funspots like
Trophy Bar and The Commodore. For a more obscure selection of songs that
make him tick, check out his radio show, Guilty Pleasures on
BrooklynRadio.com.
Ursula has just recently set his time
machine controls towards primitive garage punk for his new E.P., FUZZ,
featuring the inimitable Fred Schneider from The B-52s on the opening
song, "Hey You!".
Drenched in snarling fuzz guitars, savage
drums and spooky organs, this new collection of tracks unleashes his
technicolor take on this sound.....and is a tempting taster for the next
new album adventure...MONDO BEYONDO! (where our hero gets back in touch
with his roots but channeling it through a new set of kaleidoscopic
eyes) http://soundcloud.com/ursula1000

all over Africa and the diaspora, this project explores his deep
admiration and respect for the rhythms, sounds and musicians from
Africa. During one of his gigs he passed a demo to Thievery

and thought the project had potential soon decided to produce the

ESL Music's newest signing, The Funk Ark is a world funk ensemble based in Washington DC. The band's debut album was released on ESL Music on June 14, 2011.
Recorded at ESL Music Studios in Washington DC by Thievery Corporation’s sound engineer Christopher “Stone” Garret, From the Rooftops is the funk-tastic debut album from ESL Music’s newest artist signing The Funk Ark! Fronted by keyboard savant and long-time ESL Music session player Will Rast, the album delivers a healthy dose of vintage afrobeat, Latin, and funk stylings. Recalling the best of Afrika 70, the JB’s and the Fania Allstars all at once, The Funk Ark is your new one-stop shop for booty-shaking vintage grooves. Shout it from the rooftops!
If ever a band could boast having a complex genealogical tree, that band is Brownout. The eight-piece, Latin funk ensemble based in Austin, Texas, is both offspring and germinating seed to Grammy-Winner Grupo Fantasma.
Brownout may well be Grupo Fantasma's psychedelic Latin funk little brother, an offshoot of the collective that regularly backs Prince, its latest incarnation, or even its alter ego. What they are not is the sprawling conjunto's side project. Brownout has taken Grupo Fantasma's funk roots and blown them up. In the process they've taken on a life and developed a unique sound all their own. Aguilas and Cobras, the group's new album on Six Degrees Records (9/15/09), stands as testament to their one of a kind evolution.
