VOL V The Reggae Edition focuses on our love for Rastafari movement, explores the depths of the DC-Austin connection and celebrates the release of Wax Poetic's Reggae Issue 43! Soul of the Boot Entertainment and StrangeTribe Productions are proud to bring you Washington DC based Fort Knox Recordings artist Nappy Riddem! This duo consist of Rex Riddem and Mustafa Akbar, two worldwide party rockin' Rastars!
Mustafa Akbar a.k.a Mustabar is known for his flavorful marriage of City Slicker with Country Charm that affords him his distinct sound. His sound; an exotic, soulful blend of sophisticated edgy rock, mixed with hip-hop flavored funk, allows an effortlessly flow between the many musical projects he is a part of: electro funk band, Fort Knox Five (Fort Knox Recordings), reggae soul collaboration: Nappy Riddem (Fort Knox Recordings) and Thunderball (ESL Music).
Rex Riddem is a Washington DC based DJ, producer, and percussionist known for his ability to traverse local and time through his eclectic tastes in music. Rex started DJing in the electronic dance scene. With over 15 years experience in the industry, Rex has played clubs and concert halls throughout the U.S. as well as across the globe. He has spread his mix of classic mash-ups, ragga breaks, latin funk, and electro to Brasil, Russia, Portugal, Hawaii, St. John, Mexico, and across the continental U.S. including Las Vegas where he held an eight month residency at Mandalay Bay.
Here's a taste of their LIVE set with Asheru, Fort Knox Five and members of Thievery Corporation
To round out the bill, special guest el john (Thievery Corporation) will lay it down on the percussion! Get ready for some organic grown collaboration! We are excited to have Austin's own Jah Mighty, 1/3 of the deepest Reggae party in Austin, Ring the Alarm, will warm up the stage for our DC guests! VOL IV The Strange Edition :: MJ at Midnite!
Hola fam!
Night Fever! VOL IV The Strange Edition symbolizes four significant moments in time. 1st it's my partner Jeff Strange's BDAY--This dude has been blessing Austin with style, flavor and the dopest events for over a decade! 2nd it's the King of Pop's BDAY--well what can I say... MJ is the KING and we will pay homage at the strike of MIDNITE! 3rd marks 1 year since Soul of the Boot Entertainment and StrangeTribe Productions teamed up in this event promotion hustle. What a run playa! Respect Big Brother. 4th is quite an emotional one for me. The 29th marks the 5 year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina which uprooted me and my family from New Orleans-the rich cultural mecca, that has influenced multiple facets of my life. Katrina gave me Austin, though so I am very grateful :) So we decided to use our Night Fever! platform to bring together some of our favorite tastemakers DJ Manny, DJ Resinthol, Nick Nack, Manolo Black, Coolhands, and our host/designer/jack of all DJ Orion for one of the summer's hottest most diverse DANCE parties including LIVE art by b.e. Strange and RECORD FAIR with some rare MJ goodies by Friends of Sound Records. Uniting multiple crews for one night in your favorite East Austin get down, The Scoot Inn 9PM-2AM $5.00 with Facebook RSVP. Hola fam! VOL I of our new Night Fever! monthly at Scoot Inn was one for the record books! The energy was unstoppable and the vibe was epic!
